Right Here Waiting for You by Rebecca Pugh

Right-Here-Waiting-For-You-310x475Hello! It’s been a busy few weeks again but I finally have a bit of free time to write my book review!

I recently finished “Right Here Waiting For You” by the lovely Rebecca Pugh  and I loved it SO MUCH. I thought it needed a proper review. I had high hopes for this book after loving Rebecca’s other novels and I certainly wasn’t dissapointed! The book made me laugh out loud and it was the perfect chick lit read!

In this novel we meet two main characters: Magda and Sophia who at first seem like completely opposite people. Magda is a very hilarious, confident and outgoing woman despite her unhappy marriage and is living far away from her hometown. Sophia is a sweet Single Mother with a heart of gold who may not have everything she ever dreamed of but is a doting Mother to her little girl Esther. I thought both characters were very likeable and after being introduced to them I knew I was going to enjoy their story.

Early on in the book we learn that the two women are in fact old childhood friends but something has happened which has caused the friendship to come to an end, from then I was hooked and needed to try and piece together what had happened – got to love a bit of drama!! I love how in many of Rebecca’s novels the key relationship is between two friends – she really highlights the importance of friendship and this book certainly showed how no matter what happens a strong friendship can always survive.

I loved how the novel alternated between both girl’s points of view. That is ALWAYS a winner for me as I love hearing different sides of the story. We also had flashbacks to the past when Magda and Sophia were friends at high school. This helped to piece together what had happened to cause the breakdown of their friendship, although it still took me by surprise when we eventually found out!

There were also many other stories running in this novel, including Sophia’s friendship with single dad Michael. I adored their friendship from the word go – Michael was the sweetest 🙂 As well as this Sophia is battling with her emotions to decide on the best thing to do when another face from the past comes back into their lives.

Meanwhile, Magda was struggling to adapt to her new surroundings whilst visiting her hometown and trying to rebuild a relationship with her Dad. A few times I had to hold back the tears. At the same time Magda realises where she really belongs and I am SO glad that she made the decision!! It was so lovely to see so many relationships rebuilt in this book – it was just so heartwarming to read!

My thoughts on finishing this book was that I adored it! It was so lovely how everything pieced together nicely and I enjoyed reading Magda and Sophia’s stories develop throughout the book, it was lovely to get to know the characters through their points of view. I rated this book a firm 5 Stars – I only wish that there was more of it! Rebecca really puts her heart and soul into these stories, you can really enter the minds of her characters and go on a journey with them. Right Here Waiting for You was a lovely book to read and I enjoyed every page!

I would without a shadow of a doubt recommend that you read this book and Rebecca’s previous books as well: Return to Bluebell Hill, A Home in Sunset Bay and Down on Daffodil Lane.

Thanks for reading!!

The Last Piece of my Heart by Paige Toon.

Hi! So this is my first blog post in almost  year. University basically took over my life this year, it’s been pretty hectic, but i’m all done now!

For my first blog post I decided to review a book that I recently read on holiday: The Last Piece of my Heart by Paige Toon. I’ll start off my saying that I adore Paige Toon. She’s my favourite author and i’ve loved every single book that she’s wrote. (I am in no way being sponsored to review this book and all views and opinions are completely honest and my own – just showing the love!!). I got this book upon it’s release in May, but decided to wait until my holiday to Portugal in August to read it. I have a rule where I cannot go on holiday without a Paige Toon book! It was a long wait to read it, but so worth it.the-last-piece-of-my-heart-9781471162558_hr

This book took us to meet Bridget – who we’ve been introduced to before in The Longest Holiday and Thirteen Weddings. (Paige often links characters from her books together and we get to catch up with them occasionally for their own story – it’s like meeting up with an old friend!)

From the word go, Travel Writer Bridget is a very likeable character. She is offered a job as a Ghost Writer to finish a sequel to a Bestselling Book who’s author Nicole (Nicki) has tragically passed away. Upon her arrival into Cornwall, Bridget meets the author’s late husband Charlie and baby daughter April. Although there is understandably a lot of tension between Bridget and Charlie, I loved seeing them become more comfortable together and my heart melted as Bridget started to bond with baby April!

Bridget researches for the book sequel, uncovering Nicole’s old diaries and realising that the book may be more closer to home and real events than originally thought. Bridget and Charlie visit various places across Cornwall and the surrounding areas, something which Paige does a lot for her own books. I’ve never been to Cornwall, but after reading Paige’s views, told through Bridget, I feel like I can picture it perfectly! Paige always takes us to the settings of her book so you feel like you’re right there with the characters and can really be involved in the story!

At the same time as her Ghost Writer job, Bridget is also writing her travel blog: this is based on the title of the book “The Last Piece of my Heart”  and sees Bridget tracking down her ex boyfriends and demanding that they give her back the pieces of her heart that they had taken as the relationship ended. This was such a creative idea and I enjoyed hearing Bridget’s stories about the different men who had stolen a piece of her heart, including her current boyfriend Elliot who started it all off! I will admit though I was glad that Bridget decided not to continue with her blog post and leave the past in the past, including Elliot!

The book also saw Bridget journey to Thailand to continue the research for the book, another well detailed destination. Bridget managed to finish off her research, including meeting the famous Isak who was based on the character Timo from the book. After her visit to Thailand and upon finishing the sequel Bridget also realises just who her whole heart belongs to (I won’t spoil it!!) and I am so glad that things worked out as they did!

My thoughts upon finishing this book was just how much I adored every page of it. Obviously I have read and loved every single one of Paige’s books but this one was something special. The storylines were so creative and clearly well thought out, and the journey we went on with Bridget was so heartwarming – I wanted more! I was so glad the book finished how it did though – I’m not ashamed to admit that I may have shed a little tear from behind my sunglasses. I devoured the book in just over 24 hours – it definitely stole my heart and I couldn’t put it down. I rated this book 5*.

I’m planning to re-read my Paige Toon collection before her next novel comes out next year. I would definitely recommend The Last Piece of my Heart, and Paige’s other books. You don’t have to read them in order, but it definitely makes them more special as they sometimes link together in a discreet but special way.

Thankyou for reading this blog post – comments would be appreciated and i’d love to hear what you thought of this book as well.

My Top Ten Books of 2016!!

Helloooo!! So I haven’t really posted in a couple of months – I had a really busy/hectic November and December and I literally read like 2 books 😦

Despite that – I had a pretty good reading year overall & I managed to read a total of 44 books. My target was 30 so i’m pretty chuffed I was able to complete it, and read more! I cannot believe it’s that time of year again where I have to choose my top 10 books, it literally seems like 5 minutes ago that I was choosing last year’s! It was a hard choice choosing these books because I have read sooooo many amazing 5* books this year. In the end I managed to narrow it down to these ten books:

(They’re not in order of likeness – they’re in the order that I read them!)

(ps: All views are my own, I haven’t been sponsored/bribed to include any books in this post!)

  1. Finding Audrey: Sophie Kinsella – I loved this book so much. It was about teenager finding-audreyAudrey who was battling with a few mental illnesses. I’ve read a few books about depression and mental illness before but none of them were quite as good as this one. Sophie Kinsella went into so much detail – whilst also maintaining sensitivity – and you could completely put yourself into Audrey’s shoes. I would honestly recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it: it’s both emotional and funny and such an amazing story overall.

2. A Home in Sunset Bay: Rebecca Pugh – I adore Rebecca Pugh’s books so much – everyone i’ve read I have really enjoyed and this one was no sunset-baydifferent. The main relationship of this novel was between two sisters: Mia and Laurie and showed the importance of family & friendships. Rebecca has the ability to transport you to the place with her writing and I could picture Sunset Bay as if I lived there myself – it was so beautiful & I actually missed it when I finished! If you haven’t already, you definitely need to read one of Rebecca’s books – they are so lovely!!

3. Me Before You: JoJo Moyes – I jumped on the Me Before You bandwagon in
2016 & I am SO glad – I loved it, and yes I fell in love with Will Traynor, and me before youyes I cried like a baby at the end. Most people I know have read this book, and if you haven’t then I won’t spoil it but it is honestly the most amazing, well written and beautiful story and i’m so glad I read it. I loved the character Lou and as well as the same name, she reminded me of myself in many ways! I was so worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype but it really did and it has definitely become one of my all time favourite books! I also really enjoyed the film, Emilia Clarke & Sam Claflin were the perfect choices to play Will & Lou 🙂

4. 3 Amazing Things About You: Jill Mansell – I love the sort of books where there are lots 3 amazing thingsof different characters telling the story from their own points of view. This book was like that but this one was extra  special. It kept me guessing the whole way through – i just knew the characters had to be linked & I was so gobsmacked when I figured it out! I have read quite a few Jill Mansell books and I still have quite a few to read, but this has been my favourite so far and is definitely going to take some beating! It was funny & emotional and such a lovely story that I just didn’t want to end.

5. The One we Fell in Love With: Paige Toon – Paige Toon has been one of my favourite towfilwauthors for a long time and i’ve loved all of her other books so I knew that i’d love this one too – I just didn’t realise quite how much! The book was focused on three triplets with three very different lives, but with also one thing/person in common! This book was so sad & heartbreaking – but also so so so lovely & possibly one of my favourite books by Paige. It kept me guessing and after being a little confused at the start, it all began to make sense & fell into place and I was literally sat staring into space trying to take in what I had just read! I couldn’t put this book down at times and I was gutted when I finished it!

6. How to Fall in Love: Cecilia Ahern – I picked this book up in the library and it didn’t how to fall in loveleave my hands until i’d finished it two days later. I hadn’t read a Cecilia Ahern book in a while but I honestly adored every single page of this book so much. It was a beautifully written story which was also very emotional and heartwarming and showed you exactly what the title suggests it would: how to fall in love, and how to learn to enjoy life again when you’re feeling at your lowest. The growing bond between the two characters Christine and Adam was so lovely to hear & it also had a happy ending which was the icing on the cake!

7. All About the Hype: Paige Toon – Another book by Paige Toon! This was the third and all about the hypefinal part of the Young Adult Jessie Jefferson trilogy & although I’m sad it’s come to an end – I enjoyed it so much! I think my favourite thing about this book was the developing relationship between my Johnny Jefferson (who just happens to be my favourite bookish character ever!) and his daughter Jessie. We really saw them both open up and I loved the over-protective side of Johnny. I felt for Jessie so much: at just 16 years old she had been through so much & was also finding the life of L.A difficult to get used to. I would highly recommend this series if you haven’t already read them!

8. Summer at Shell Cottage: Lucy Diamond – I read this book on holiday in the sunshine summer at shell cottageand it was such an enjoyable read. The book followed the Tarrant family who visited Shell Cottage every summer for their Family holiday. This year however was different due to various secrets, lies and the tragic death of the head of the family, Alex. The book was definitely a page turner that had me on the edge of my seat/sun lounger and eager to find out what was going to happen next. It was both emotional & funny and I really enjoyed it. I have lots of Lucy Diamond books on my tbr list for 2017 and I can’t wait to read them!!

9. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany – I really, the-cursed-childreally, really enjoyed this screen play/story. I avoided any spoilers and reviews and went into it with a complete open mind. I won’t spoil it at all because I know a few people who haven’t read it yet but I will just say that it is a very clever and clearly well – thought out story which I really enjoyed and kept me wondering what was going to happen. I loved being back in the world of Hogwarts and it definitely inspired me to re-read the whole Harry Potter series next year – I even have new editions to read!!

10. Rebecca Done: This Secret We’re Keeping – This book was sooooo good. The main focus this-secret-were-keepingof this story was a teacher/pupil relationship scandal and it flicked back and forth from the past to the present and through the points of view of Jessica and Matthew/Will. I was constantly torn throughout this book as to whos “side” I was on and expected to hate Matthew, but I really didn’t. Rebecca Done wrote this book in so much detail & really showed how much the two characters loved each other! I really hope there’s a sequel to this book because I was practically screaming at the end and I just need to know what happened next!!!

So there’s my top 10 books of 2016. Thanks for reading, and please add a comment down below if you’ve read any of my listed books and what you thought of them!

Happy New Year Everybody – I hope 2017 treats you well!!

October 2016 Wrap Up!!

Hi! I hope everyone has had a good month. I’ve had a busy one, again!! But still pretty good and I managed to get 4 books read, all of which i’ve really enjoyed.

Here’s what I read in October:

undomestic-goddessThe Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella: I love Sophie Kinsella books and she’s probably one of my all time favourite authors so I was really looking forward to reading this one. I’d heard good reviews about The Undomestic Goddess, and Sophie had recently been posting a lot about it on her Facebook page 🙂 Overall it was a very enjoyable book; very funny and also very interesting. The main character Samantha, a lawyer, made a huge mistake that costs her the dream career that’s she’s always wanted. Fleeing from her mistake; she ends up in a quiet little town and accidentally finds herself in a job as a housekeeper – even though she doesn’t quite know how to use any electrical appliances! Sophie Kinsella has a very humorous way of writing and I found myself chuckling away. I found Samantha a very likeable character too!

I rated The Undomestic Goddess 4.5*. 🙂

this-secret-were-keepingThis Secret We’re Keeping by Rebecca Done: Oh. My. GOSH. This book hit me with all the emotions and I LOVED it. I’d bought this book a few months back and knew i’d love it as soon as I read the blurb. This book was about a pupil-teacher relationship between Jessica and her maths teacher Matthew. 17 years later, they meet again and although they both have completely different lives and circumstances; they can’t deny the attraction between themselves. The book told the story from both characters’ points of view, both past and present. I was torn because I knew the relationship was wrong; but I couldn’t help but love them both together! I expected to really dislike Matthew but I really liked him. Previous to reading this book; i’d read a review stating how i’d struggle to pick a side, and this was definitely true. Rebecca Done really put a lot of detail into this book and you could just feel the love and attraction between the two characters. I really didn’t want this book to end, and I could have cried when it did – on a cliffhanger!!! I need more! I need to find out what happened!!!

I rated this book 5*, it was a very well written and clearly heavily researched book, and i would definitely recommend!

any-way-you-want-meAny Way You Want Me by Lucy Diamond: Lucy Diamond is another author who’s books I always enjoy. This book was also enjoyable; a love story but a little bit different as well. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the main character, Sadie. I just thought she was really selfish! She felt unhappy in her relationship, so ultimately ended up flirting with other men online, and ended up having an affair! I know it’s a book, and makes a good storyline/drama etc etc. but it just made me a little bit angry – especially sleeping with someone else whilst her two young children were in the house, and that she got quite angry with her sister’s husband for doing the same as she was!!

I won’t go into too much detail because I don’t like giving a bad review. I did enjoy this book, it was quite fast paced and detailed, and sometimes I found it hard to put down. In the end I rated it 3*.

always-with-loveAlways with Love by Giovanna Fletcher: I was smiling so much after I finished this book. I adore Giovanna Fletcher, and her books are always incredible. I read the prequel to Always with Love – “Billy and Me” a couple of years back and I really really enjoyed that so when I heard there was a follow up – I was sooooo excited. The main character Sophie May is a lovely, likeable person and her partner Billy, well, i just looooooove Billy Buskin! The love between the pair just oozes out of the book – it’s so beautifully written and there’s so much detail and passion in Giovanna’s writing. In this book, Billy has to move back to Los Angeles to star in a new film – meaning a big separation between himself and Sophie ultimately causing problems. As well as the long distance relationship between Sophie and Billy, the story also included Sophie’s family expanding as her Mum remarries. The wedding almost reduced me to tears – it was so beautiful and emotional.

I adored everything about this book, from the location (i love Rosefont Hill so much! I need a visit to Molly’s-on-the-hill in my life!) to the characters and the lovely storyline. I hope there’s another part to this story as I would love to see what’s going to happen next. I rated this book 5*!

So that’s what I read in October – some amazing books! Leave a comment below about any of the books I’ve reviewed; whether you liked/disliked them, and of course any book recommendations would be more than appreciated!! Thanks for reading,

Lou xxx

September 2016 Wrap Up!!

Helloooo! So apart from being back at uni and work (aka no free time and lots of stress!) I had a pretty good month in September and managed to read 4 and a half books – some of which were really popular books which I finally got round to reading (and loved!!) I’m so excited that it’s now October; i love the months in the run up to Christmas: cosy nights in, thick jumpers and boots and not forgetting bonfire night, my birthday and that all the winter/christmas themed books appear in the shops!

So i’ll get started and tell you a bit about the books I read in September:

after-youAfter You by JoJo Moyes: I was a little worried that this book wouldn’t live up to how much I freaking adored Me Before You. Although it was lacking in Will Traynor (:-() it was still an amazing book, and the storyline was really unexpected and lovely at the same time. I loved catching up with Lou – she’s probably one of my favourite book characters and she reminds me of myself a little too: a little clumsy/ditsy and always putting other people before ourselves. Plus she has a pretty good name too! 😉

I really liked the relationship growth of Lou and Lily, and Lou and Sam and it was also nice to catch up with some of the Traynor and the Clarke families too. And Nathan of course, i do love Nathan!! 😉 Lou’s grief over Will was so heartbreaking and I cannot even begin to imagine how she must be feeling, but it was lovely to see her slowly begin to find herself again, and live her life just how Will had wanted her to. I’d love to hear more from Lou in the future!! 🙂

I rated After You 4.5* because although it wasn’t quite Me Before You – it was the best I could have hoped from a sequel to one of my favourite books.

the-cursed-childHarry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany: I can’t go into much detail about this book without going into spoilers and I definitely don’t want to do that. I went into this book with a complete open mind (even though i’d read good and bad reviews) and spoiler free and i’m so so glad! I really, really enjoyed this story and I thought that the whole idea was a really clever storyline which kept me guessing the whole way through. I loved being transported back into the magical world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts; a world which I grew up loving!

I didn’t really mind the fact that it was a play: to be honest I didn’t really notice and it still flowed like a story. I rated Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 5* because I really did enjoy it. I just wish I was going to see the play now!

desperate-bridesThe Desperate Brides Diet Club by Alison Sherlock: I’m not entirely sure what to say.. I hate to give a bad review on books because of the author’s time and efforts put into writing it. But I have to say that I read this book and didn’t feel anything through it the whole way through – no attachment to the characters or likeness to the storyline at all. It followed a group of women and a man who join a weight watcher’s group to try and lose weight and feel a little bit better about themselves. I was a little bit disappointed because i’ve read books similar to this before and enjoyed them. I think some of the wording bothered me – especially the over use of the word “fat” 😦 In the end i rated this book 1.5* – it had some good ideas but just didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

tfiosThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green: I finally read this book!! Forever late to the party! I was a bit unsure about the book because although John Green is a very popular author, i’ve never been able to get into his other books. If i’m honest I put off reading TFIOS because I thought it was going to be too sad, which it was, but it was also such a lovely story and so, so, so beautifully written. I felt so attached to the characters and although I already knew what would happen, it was still so heartbreaking. If you’ve not read this book before, it’s a teenage love story with a heartbreaking twist and it follows Hazel Grace and Augustus who meet at a cancer support group. What follows is a combination of beautiful and exciting moments including a trip to Amsterdam to meet their hero, but ends in heartbreak in the most upsetting way! Despite the upset, it really is an amazing story and one that you won’t forget. Plus there is a memorable quote on every page!

I rated The Fault in Our Stars 5* – hopefully i’ll get round to reading John Green’s other books again soon!

So that’s what I read in September! October is going to be super busy but i’m still hoping to read 3-4 books, some of which i’ve had on my tbr list for ever!!

Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment on any opinions about any of the books i’ve mentioned! 🙂 Speak Soon!

August 2016 Wrap Up!!

Hi! What a lovely month August has been – I had a perfect holiday, and done lots of lovely things with my family, friends and my boyfriend. I’ve also read seven amazing books which I’m so excited to talk to you about! I have a few more books than usual to get through so i’ll get started:

jagsifoabJust a Girl Standing in Front of a Boy by Lucy-Anne Holmes: “Hilarious, Romantic, Honest” – 3 perfect words for this novel!

Ok so this was one of those books that has been on my shelf for about 2 years that i’ve just never got round to picking up. I’m so glad to have finally got round to reading it though! I loved it from the moment I started it and I loved the main character Jenny. I want to be Jenny Taylor’s BFF and go on the Tiddlesbury Tour!

The book was so so funny and easygoing with plenty to make you smile and laugh out loud, but also had some pretty sad teary moments that made me cry too! I’ll be honest I thought this was going to be a typical “girl complaining/whining about life, meets a boy, falls in love etc etc.” type book, but it was so much more and I loved the storyline so much it was hard to put down at times!

I rated this book 4* – i’m so glad I finally read it!

bridesmaid pactThe Bridesmaid Pact – Julia Williams: As a chick lit fanatic, this was the perfect book for me! Weddings, drama, friendship, tears, laughter, arguments and DISNEY! I’ve read a few “weddingy” (is that a word?) books before and enjoyed them; so I was looking forward to this one! This book told the story from four girl’s points of view (which is always a winner for me!) and I loved the four characters; Dorry (my fave!), Sarah, Beth and Caz. It also went back in time and showed you the different weddings, and explained things that weren’t always clear at first – you really get to know the character’s lives and personalities and Julia Williams didn’t miss out a single detail!

I really liked the fact that whilst the book was quite easy-going and a fast paced read, it also explored complex issues and kept me guessing with plenty of “omg” moments that made me just NEED to read one more chapter! The book also had a happy ending which makes it a perfect read in my eyes!

In the end, I rated this book 5*! It really was an enjoyable book and I couldn’t fault it.

we were liarsWe Were Liars by E. Lockhart: This book has been so hyped up – I just had to read it! I can see what all the fuss was about though; it was such an intriguing book! I sort of guessed what had happened part way through when a subtle hint was dropped but it still had me shocked and staring into space for about ten minutes afterwards processing it all! Some people say that the writing style is a bit strange, as it is slightly different to the norm, but I didn’t think it was too bad and I enjoyed reading it!

I can’t say too much about the book without spoiling it, but i’d definitely recommend you jumping on the “We Were Liars” bandwagon if you haven’t already done so! Plus it has the cutest little map illustration at the front!! I rated this book 4*!

daffodil laneDown on Daffodil Lane by Rebecca Pugh: Can we just take a second to appreciate how BEAUTIFUL this cover is?! I love it!! I have adored Becca’s previous books so much, and this one was no different. Rebecca is so lovely and she writes so so beautifully – she really has a way of describing her characters and the setting in so much detail that you can picture them as if you were there!

The story is about lovely Maria who takes a well needed break to Daffodil Lane  after having her heart broken. She completely falls in love with the place (and one resident in particular!) Through her new job, new friendships and the sunshine in Daffodil Lane, she soon starts to feel better. The book kept me guessing as to whether Maria would give into her feelings or not!

I loved everything about this novel! I loved meeting the little bunch of characters – especially Maria, Harriet, Milly & Brad! I also feel like I need a visit to Harriet’s Cafe in my life!! I enjoyed my visit to Daffodil Lane just as much as I did to Bluebell Hill and Sunset Bay, I just can’t wait for my next trip wherever that may be! I rated this book 5*! If you haven’t done so already, you need a Rebecca Pugh novel in your life!

all about the hypeAll About the Hype by Paige Toon: Ahhhhhhhhhhh. I love Paige Toon. She created the perfection that is Johnny Jefferson and I will forever be grateful for her for bringing him into my life! This book was the third and final *cries hysterically* novel in the Jessie Jefferson trilogy and I enjoyed it so much, i’m just sad that it had to come to an end.

I felt for Jessie so much – I could have cried 😦 Both with missing her Mum and the realisation that the “rock and roll” lifestyle of Los Angeles isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. What I liked most about this book though is the developed relationship of Jessie and Johnny. They’ve grown so close since the awkwardness of the first novel and I think it’s so lovely. She clearly adores him and it seems to be the same the other way around too! I also really liked how Jessie stayed friends with Tom, and her relationship with Jack is just the cutest – plus “over protective Dad Johnny is my fave! I could ramble on about this book all night, but to sum it up = it was AMAZING! I rated it a firm 5* and will definitely be re-reading all of the Johnny Jefferson’s books soon.

summer at shell cottageSummer at Shell Cottage by Lucy Diamond: This, in my opinion, was the perfect holiday read. And that’s exactly where I read it: on a sun lounger in Portugal in the glorious heat! This book had everything a holiday novel should have: a family, a glorious location, and lots of drama and unexpected twists!

I took an instant liking to the Tarrant family who had recently gone through a tough time. They all had their own secrets and problems and we were given the chance to meet all the characters through their own points of view. The Tarrant family visit Shell Cottage every summer, but this year none of them are looking forward to it for very different reasons. With the help of Shell Cottage, and support from their family & friends (aka the amazing Gloria!!) they were all able to resolve their problems and learnt to forgive and move on through the difficulties. The book had plenty of plot twists and shocks that I just didn’t see coming. I definitely let out a gasp or two or three by the poolside! I rated this book 5*. I’ve only read a few of Lucy Diamond’s books but I am so excited to read some more of her novels!

summer nights at the moonlight hotelSummer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel: I’ve visited some beautiful locations this month through my books, and the Moonlight Hotel was definitely one of them. Admittedly, I didn’t think we saw as much of it as the title of the  book suggests but it was described so well,  both before and after Joe’s refurbishment that I absolutely fell in love with the place!

I related to the main character Lauren really well and she reminded me of myself a little too. She was very passionate about what she wanted to do, but also quite indecisive and maybe a little scared to take the leap. I’m so glad she followed her heart in the end though! I also really liked Cate and I felt SO sorry for her, I can’t even begin to imagine what she was going through. I did like  Emily, but I definitely didn’t agree with some of her actions! I thought the novel was just going to be about the salsa lessons and the development of the Moonlight Hotel so I wasn’t 100% sure if I was going to enjoy it, but I really did! Jane Costello always manages to make me chuckle, the zipwire incident in particular made me laugh a lot!  I enjoyed reading the different character’s storylines too – there were so many unexpected moments and surprises along the way. I rated this book 4*!

So that’s it! Thanks for reading – I hope I haven’t rambled on too much!!

I have a super long tbr list to get through with some amazing books on it for the next few months. Feel free to comment about any of my reviews, or tell me what’s on your tbr list too!

July 2016 Wrap Up!!

Hii! So it’s August already – holiday month eek!! Today i’m going to be reviewing the books I read in July. I didn’t think i’d be reading much this month because I had a bit of a bad time at the start of July – I was poorly and super stressed & I went into a bit of a reading slump 😦 But in the end I managed to read 4 books; so i’ll get started and tell you all about them!

Here’s what I read this month:

cinderCinder by Marissa Meyer: Pretty much everyone has read and loved this book, so I was so excited to get started! I have to admit though I was a little disappointed with  Cinder 😦 Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed bits of it and I’ll probably read the other’s at some point too, but I just felt like there was something missing and not a lot really happened – like I was expecting a big event or a climax or something? I didn’t feel a particular attachment to the characters – I was expecting to love Kai and although he was probably my favourite character, I just wasn’t overly fussed.

I won’t say much more cos I don’t like to write a bad review, or offend anyone because so many people I know love this series so much! I rated “Cinder” 2*. I will probably read the other books to find out what happens, I don’t give up that easily!

the babyThe Baby by Lisa Drakeford: I picked this book up from the library because I needed a light hearted read to get me out of a bit of a reading slump – and it really did the trick! This book followed five friends who were all affected by one mad night when Nicola – one of the main characters unexpectedly gave birth on Olivia’s bathroom floor. The book was structured so each of the five got to tell their own story and I liked how we got to know each of them individually and in the end I liked all of them, whereas at the start I wasn’t overly keen on one of them in particular! I liked the fact that this book was quite easy-going and lighthearted, but at the same time it covered a lot of contemporary issues; teenage pregnancy, bullying, friendships, domestic abuse and relationships to name a few! It was fab to read, and I finished it in two sittings! Plus, isn’t the cover just the cutest?!

I rated “The Baby” 5*, I really, really enjoyed it. I got to discover a new author and it pulled me out of my reading slump = perfect!

shopaholic to the rescueShopaholic to the Rescue by Sophie Kinsella: I love a good old catch up with Becky B!! She’s probably one of my favourite book characters – she never fails to make me laugh! In this book, Becky and co. were off to Las Vegas to track down her Dad and Tarkie who had both gone missing. Not only this, she had to repair a broken friendship with Suze, and take care of (absolutely adorable!!) Minnie and her extremely flustered Mom! The book was eventful, and I enjoyed it as always, but I have to admit I haven’t enjoyed this one as much as the others! 😦 Becky seemed to have lost her crazy side, and seemed a lot more serious than usual. I know she was going through a bad time – but she didn’t even want to shop anymore!!!??!!! She just wasn’t the same old Becky which I was a little disappointed in 😦

I rated “Shopaholic to the Rescue” 3.5-4*. I enjoyed it as I always enjoy Sophie Kinsella’s books, but I just missed the old Becky!!

how to fall in loveHow to Fall in Love by Cecilia Ahern:  “i was unhappy with me. You made me like me again. You helped me live my life again” (ANDDDDD CRY!!!)

Wowwwwwwww. I only finished this today (cheating a bit cos it’s technically August now, but I started it in July!) and I can honestly say I loved every second of it! It followed Christine who manages to convince Adam not to jump off a bridge and end his life. She then has two weeks to convince him that life is worth living. I sort of knew how the book would end, but the journey there – wow!! It was so beautifully written and I physically couldn’t put in down at some points. It came with unexpected twists, which Cecilia Ahern just popped into the end of each chapter (usually when I’d already told myself “one more chapter”) and I had to like, stare at the page and keep re-reading it to let it sink in! I laughed and I cried and I got so attached to the characters; I loved Adam soooo much!

I rated “How to Fall in Love” a firm 5*. I haven’t read a Cecilia Ahern book in a while and after this book i’ve remembered how much I love her writing and will definitely be reading another one of her books very soon!

So that’s what I read this month – thanks for reading and feel free to comment below! I’m going on holiday this month and I always read loads when i’m round the pool. Coming in my suitcase this year is Paige Toon’s “All About the Hype”, Jojo Moyes’ “After You” and a few summer chick lits by Jane Costello and Lucy Diamond – I can’t wait! 🙂 Now just to decide what to read in the meantime…

June 2016 Wrap Up!

Hiiii! It’s that time of the month again where i’m going to do my wrap up and tell you all about what i’ve read in the month of June. I’ve read 3 books this month which seems to be my average at the minute cos i’m soooo busy 24/7! I’ve read some amazing books this month though so I’ll get started and tell you all about them!

Here’s what i’ve read this month:

3 amazing thingsThree Amazing Things About You by Jill Mansell: This was such  a lovely book, and so clever! It followed three girls – Hallie, Flo and Tasha and their families and it came across as though there was no real link between them. I had an inkling that there would be a connection while I was reading it, but I was so surprised by what it was!! It was so sad in places, but so beautiful and heartwarming too!! I’ve read a fair few of Jill Mansell’s books (although I seem to discover more and more all the time!!) and this was probably one of my favourites! I loved the characters Tasha and Rory & I could relate to Tasha quite well!

It was quite a fast paced book but Jill Mansell really described what was going on, and didn’t miss out a single detail.

I rated “Three Amazing Things About You” 5*, i’d definitely recommend it if you haven’t read it before 🙂

fracturedFractured by Dani Atkins: I hadn’t heard of this book until I picked it up in the library. The blurb made it sound so interesting and I just sort of *needed* to read it – I started it as soon as I got home. This book was about Rachel who  was involved in a serious accident where she lost her best friend – or did she? The book switched to a different time frame/alternative outcome & it appeared that some of the events hadn’t actually happened. I did really enjoy this book & I found it so hard to put down, butttttt I will admit that the change in time frame confused me a little, and even when I finished, I was still super confused and needed some questions answering as to what actually happened! It’s hard to explain without causing too many spoilers!

Overall though I did really enjoy reading this book & I got through it really quickly because I couldn’t put it down – I needed to know more!! I liked the main character Rachel and I felt so sorry for her, I couldn’t even imagine how scary it must feel to be in a situation like that. I loved Jimmy too, and I did like Matt until about halfway through – yuk! Rachel’s Dad was one of the key characters though, and I think the events affected him the most – he almost made me cry!!

I rated Fractured 4* because although it did confuse me – it was still an amazing book & I really enjoyed it!

towfilwThe One We Fell In Love With by Paige Toon: I was SO excited to read this because as everyone knows I love Paige Toon – she’s my favourite author and I adore her books so much. This one was no exception; in fact it’s probably one of my favourites, tied with Johnny Be Good & Chasing Daisy. What I loved the most about this book is that it was a little bit different to her others, but it was still the same Paige Toon we know and love!

I was hooked from the start and eager to find out what was going to happen, I loved the three girls in the story, triplets Phoebe, Rose and Eliza – so alike, and in love with the same guy – but so so different! I’ll admit I wasn’t hugely keen on Angus at the start because it seemed like he loved having attention off three girls, but my opinion soon changed and I began to love him just as much. This book had THE MOTHER of all surprises, it was literally so so so unexpected – you literally turn the page and there it is! I re-read the page about 1000000billion times and I was still in shock! It did answer a lot of questions for me though & afterwards I was even more hooked than I was to begin with!

I loved Rose the most & so glad she got her happy ending, although it may not have been what she wanted at first – she was so happy, and I had a huge smile on my face at the end (although super sad that it had finished!)

I rated The One We Fell In Love With 5* – of course! Seriously it’s a perfect book & I can’t recommend it enough!

So that’s what I read in June! My plan for July is my current read: Anouska Knight – A Part Of Me, Cinder by Marrisa Meyer and the most recent book in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic Series! Thanks for reading, would love to hear any feedback & any comments on the books i’ve reviewed! 🙂

Ten Bookish Questions

Ten Bookish Questions

Hi! I decided to a do a different type of blog post this week and answer some “bookish questions” – basically just a little bit about my favourite authors/genres etc 🙂

1) Who are your favourite author(s)? – Paige Toon is probably my all time favourite author. I adore her books so so much & she’s  a lovely person too! 🙂 I’m also a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella,  Giovanna Fletcher, Jill Mansell, Jane Costello, Milly Johnson, Lucy Diamond & Cecilia Ahern! I’ve recently discovered Holly Martin and Rebecca Pugh who’s books i’ve absolutely adored & I can’t wait to read more of their’s soon 🙂

2) What’s your favourite genre?  Chick Lit! I love nothing more than a book about love stories/romance and friendships! I am starting to branch out a bit though and i’ve discovered a love for fantasy books too 🙂

5116843) Favourite Childhood Books? I’ve always loved reading. When I was younger I loved traditional tales – the 3 Little Pigs/ Billy Goats Gruff/The Enormous Turnip etc. (It’s great working in a Pre-School and getting to read them as often as I want! When I was a bit older, I loved Harry Potter, and Jacqueline Wilson was a big favourite of mine too!
I must have read all of her books at least 10 times! (I really want to read them all again now!!)

550x298_jennifer-lawrence-and-sam-claflin-talk--catching-fire--at-cannes-48784) Favourite Book Character? Tough one! I have a little (huge) crush on Sam Claflin & find myself attached to characters I know he’s playing/has played so Finnick Odair (Catching Fire/Mockingjay), Alex Stewart (Love, Rosie/Where Rainbows End) and Will Traynor (Me Before You) are top of my list! I also love Louisa Clark (Me Before You), Becky Bloomwood (Shopaholics Series) and Johnny Jefferson (Johnny Be Good/Baby Be Mine) to name a few! I find myself getting attached to a character in almost every book I read!

5) Any unpopular bookish opinions? Ok, without offending anyone – i’ve never been able to get into John Green Books! I have tried with most of his books but I end up giving up after a few chapters!

6) How long does it take you to read a book? It honestly depends how busy I am, How long the book is, and how much i’m enjoying it! I usually average at about 3-4 books a month when i’m at work, but when i’m off work or on holiday I can read a book in a day or two! 🙂 I’m quite a quick reader but I have a pretty demanding job!

7) Hard Copies or Kindle? I prefer hard copies because I just love that new book feel/smell & organising them and making them look pretty on my bookshelf. I do  absolutely love my kindle though and it’s perfect for reading some exclusive short stories/ebooks that are only available on there, and also for reading on the go when I don’t have room for a book in my bag 🙂

8) When/Where do you prefer to read? I love to settle down before bed and read (although most of the time i end up falling asleep into my book!!) and I like chilling out for half an hour when I get home from work so I usually read then. I also love to read on long car journeys (not when i’m driving – i’m not that good at multitasking!), on holiday, and sometimes it’s nice to just sit and read when I need a break or chill out – so anytime really!

71C29sK5fwL9) Are there any books/authors that you think need more credit/recognition? I don’t think Paige Toon get’s enough recognition – i’m amazed at how many people haven’t read her books :-O Honestly, if you’re a chick lit lover you’ll love her books and much as I do! They’re so lovely and well written, and they all cleverly link in a way 🙂

me before you10) All time favourite book? Ok so I was super late to the party and I only read this book like, last month!! Butttt, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is honestly one of the most heartwarming and lovely stories I’ve ever read! It made me smile, laugh, and cry & I got so attached to Lou & Will, i didn’t want it to end! So i’d probably say it’s one of the best books i’ve ever read. Just missing out on my top spot are Chasing Daisy – Paige Toon, Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets – JK Rowling & Finding Audrey – Sophie Kinsella.

Thanks for reading! Would love to hear any comments/opinions on what i’ve wrote about and of course any book recommendations to my ever growing tbr list! 🙂

May 2016 Wrap Up

Hi! I’ve had a busy month so I haven’t had much time to write a book review! I decided to do a general wrap up of what I’ve read this month because the books I’ve read have been AMAZING! I’ve read 3 books and a couple of novellas (i know it’s not very many, i’m not an insanely slow reader – just a busy bee! But it’s about quality, not quantity, right? ;-))

Here’s what I’ve read this month:

dororthy must die cover

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige:  I was so surprised by this book. Apart from Harry Potter, i’ve never been a huge fan of fantasy so I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to like it or not. It turned out I really, really did! I was pretty much hooked from the first couple of chapters and I was desperate to find out what was going to happen. I loved the Wizard of Oz when I was younger (who am i kidding, i still do!) so it was interesting to read it in a different way and hear a different side to the story.

It was quite a long winded book, but it wasn’t too hard going and it flowed quite easily. There was also quite a lot of surprises and shocks and it was definitely a “just one more chapter..” kind of book!

I gave Dorothy Must Die 5*. I enjoyed it so much and I can’t wait to read the next one, and some more young adult fantasy books soon!

me before youMe Before You by JoJo Moyes: I adored this book! Honestly, it was perfect – i can’t fault it! I was a little worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype, as apparently everyone has read this book!! But I loved it so much, right from the very beginning.  This book broke my heart, it made me laugh, it made me smile, and it made me cry so much! I sort of knew what was coming, but nothing could have prepared me for the ending – I sobbed like a baby! This book really made me think, and in  a way it makes you appreciate life a little bit more!
Lou and Will were both such likeable characters & i wanted them to be together so much, so I may have been pretty happy when she binned Patrick & finally realised her feelings for Will! I also loved Lou’s sister Treena & how supportive she was of Lou throughout the whole book 🙂 I couldn’t put the book down at times and I looked forward to my daily fix of Lou & Will’s story!

I gave Me Before You 5*. It was really an amazing a book, so emotional and moving, an absolutely perfect read.. I wonder if the film will be as good? 🙂

beautiful broken thingsBeautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard: I loved this book too! I found it very intriguing & I was always eager to find out what was going to happen next. It was another book that explored different issues, not something that have affected me personally but something that really made me think about when I was reading it! I seemed to get through this book quite quickly, it was quite fast paced, but a lot happened and it was a very enjoyable read.

At first, I wasn’t overly keen on the narrator and main character Caddy. She was quite unsympathetic – and somehow jealous?!?! of terrible things that her friends had been through! I did grow to like her in the end and felt really sorry for her, the end of the book almost made me cry! I really liked the other girls in the story too – Rosie and Tarin were both really laidback and funny and were both there for Caddy when she needed them the most. I really liked Suzanne too and I could have hugged her! I loved how book showed the importance of friendships and how it was the key aspect of the story!

I gave Beautiful Broken Things 4*. I found it a really interesting read and definitely reccommend it!

Thanks for reading! My plan for June is to read Jill Mansell’s “Three Amazing Things about You”, Paige Toon’s new novel – “The One We Fell In Love With” & Anouska Knight’s book “A Part of Me” – i’ve never read anything by Anouska Knight before so I can’t wait to read it. I’m hoping to get round to reading the first book in The Lunar Chronicles – “Cinder” too 🙂
