Helloooo! So apart from being back at uni and work (aka no free time and lots of stress!) I had a pretty good month in September and managed to read 4 and a half books – some of which were really popular books which I finally got round to reading (and loved!!) I’m so excited that it’s now October; i love the months in the run up to Christmas: cosy nights in, thick jumpers and boots and not forgetting bonfire night, my birthday and that all the winter/christmas themed books appear in the shops!
So i’ll get started and tell you a bit about the books I read in September:
After You by JoJo Moyes: I was a little worried that this book wouldn’t live up to how much I freaking adored Me Before You. Although it was lacking in Will Traynor (:-() it was still an amazing book, and the storyline was really unexpected and lovely at the same time. I loved catching up with Lou – she’s probably one of my favourite book characters and she reminds me of myself a little too: a little clumsy/ditsy and always putting other people before ourselves. Plus she has a pretty good name too! 😉
I really liked the relationship growth of Lou and Lily, and Lou and Sam and it was also nice to catch up with some of the Traynor and the Clarke families too. And Nathan of course, i do love Nathan!! 😉 Lou’s grief over Will was so heartbreaking and I cannot even begin to imagine how she must be feeling, but it was lovely to see her slowly begin to find herself again, and live her life just how Will had wanted her to. I’d love to hear more from Lou in the future!! 🙂
I rated After You 4.5* because although it wasn’t quite Me Before You – it was the best I could have hoped from a sequel to one of my favourite books.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany: I can’t go into much detail about this book without going into spoilers and I definitely don’t want to do that. I went into this book with a complete open mind (even though i’d read good and bad reviews) and spoiler free and i’m so so glad! I really, really enjoyed this story and I thought that the whole idea was a really clever storyline which kept me guessing the whole way through. I loved being transported back into the magical world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts; a world which I grew up loving!
I didn’t really mind the fact that it was a play: to be honest I didn’t really notice and it still flowed like a story. I rated Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 5* because I really did enjoy it. I just wish I was going to see the play now!
The Desperate Brides Diet Club by Alison Sherlock: I’m not entirely sure what to say.. I hate to give a bad review on books because of the author’s time and efforts put into writing it. But I have to say that I read this book and didn’t feel anything through it the whole way through – no attachment to the characters or likeness to the storyline at all. It followed a group of women and a man who join a weight watcher’s group to try and lose weight and feel a little bit better about themselves. I was a little bit disappointed because i’ve read books similar to this before and enjoyed them. I think some of the wording bothered me – especially the over use of the word “fat” 😦 In the end i rated this book 1.5* – it had some good ideas but just didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green: I finally read this book!! Forever late to the party! I was a bit unsure about the book because although John Green is a very popular author, i’ve never been able to get into his other books. If i’m honest I put off reading TFIOS because I thought it was going to be too sad, which it was, but it was also such a lovely story and so, so, so beautifully written. I felt so attached to the characters and although I already knew what would happen, it was still so heartbreaking. If you’ve not read this book before, it’s a teenage love story with a heartbreaking twist and it follows Hazel Grace and Augustus who meet at a cancer support group. What follows is a combination of beautiful and exciting moments including a trip to Amsterdam to meet their hero, but ends in heartbreak in the most upsetting way! Despite the upset, it really is an amazing story and one that you won’t forget. Plus there is a memorable quote on every page!
I rated The Fault in Our Stars 5* – hopefully i’ll get round to reading John Green’s other books again soon!
So that’s what I read in September! October is going to be super busy but i’m still hoping to read 3-4 books, some of which i’ve had on my tbr list for ever!!
Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment on any opinions about any of the books i’ve mentioned! 🙂 Speak Soon!
